Overview

Department 425, Electrical Systems Embedded Software Engineering, engineers apply software and computer engineering skills to specify, design, develop, integrate, and test, as well as subcontract manage software development for US Navy Nuclear Submarines. Collaborating with systems, hardware, and test engineers, software is developed, tested and maintained for a variety of submarine platforms and electrical systems for the propulsion and electric plant as well as hull, mechanical and electrical (HM&E) systems. The D425 software test group supports the D425 software development groups by providing an independent software test capability. The software test group's primary goal is to ensure all software and interface requirements are satisfied prior to formal release of software outside the department.

The Department 425 Software Platform Test group is seeking a junior level candidate to pursue their interest in the software test domain.

Specific Responsibilities include:

    Analysis of system level requirements
  • Interface with software developers and verify operational requirements
  • Detailed design of software test setup that satisfy software and interface requirements
  • Setup of operating system hardware, applications, and related test cases
  • Familiar with automated test methodologies and creating automated scripts
  • Functional testing of software applications
  • Log and entry of bugs, issues and re-verifying of shipboard software

Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent ABET accredited technical degree
  • 0 to 3 years' work experience and strong interest in pursuing a career in software test
  • Proficiency in a high level, object oriented language (e.g. C++, Java, .NET, Python, etc.)
  • Experience in LabVIEW
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software lifecycle methodologies (Waterfall and Agile)
  • Experience with Linux and Microsoft operating systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software analysis and design (e.g. UML, diagrams, data flow, etc.)
  • Familiarity with a source control tool (e.g. Git, SVN, GitLab, CVS, MS Teams, etc.)
  • Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD security clearance

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent technical degree
  • Active SECRET clearance
  • Experience with software unit testing (e.g. JUnit, XUnit, Google Test, etc.) tools and methodology
  • Experience with IBM DOORS, MATLAB /w Labview
  • Knowledge or experience with secure coding (C++ or Java) standards
  • Familiarity with configuration management and quality assurance
Skills

The candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and technical writing skills, including the ability to write and analyze software test results. Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment and be able to work with Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI) Level 3 processes. Skills in scripting, along with Real-Time Operating Systems and relational and object-oriented databases are desirable. Prior experience in developing graphics, simulations, critical processor software, and interfacing with submarine electronics are preferred and networking knowledge is desirable.
